OCONOMOWOC SCHOLARSHIP FUND ANNOUNCES NEW SCHOLARSHIP

Seymour, Rebecca. Lake Country NOW, March, 2019 – The Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund is pleased to announce the addition of a new scholarship for Oconomowoc-area students titled the “M. Jane Hartnett Award.”

Long-time Oconomowoc resident, Bill Hartnett reached out to the OSF board with the desire of creating an annual scholarship in his wife’s memory. The award will be a $12,000 scholarship paid out over four years to high school seniors pursuing higher education.

Jane Hartnett was a dedicated, sixth-grade teacher for 35 years in the Oconomowoc Area School District. Most of these years were at Okauchee Elementary and then at Meadow View Elementary. Jane passed away this last December. She and her husband, Bill were married for 49 years. “I know how much Jane loved teaching and after she passed away I was trying to figure out how I could honor her. I thought a scholarship that will benefit young people living in Oconomowoc would be a neat way to do that,” explained Bill.

Mike Toennies has been on the OSF board for 12 years and was president from 2011-15. “It’s wonderful to give back to our community. Our board is a great group of people and I really enjoy being a part of it. The scholarships support kids who deserve and truly, truly need them,” added Toennies.
